Kotoko advances to MTN/FA Cup finals

Defending FA Champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko F/C on Wednesday advanced to the grand finale of the MTN/FA Cup competition via a 5-4 penalty win over Wa All Stars in their match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday night.

Kotoko who were determined to appease their vociferous fans after their recent lose in the President’s Cup, commenced the match on a vigorous note but lack of precision and inaccurate shooting upfront denied them of the needed goals.

The match ended 0-0 after regulation time.

Fatawu Mohammed, Alex Asamoah and Nathaniel Asamoah were the worst culprits for Kotoko as their attempts at goal were wasted in the 13th, 16th and 34th minutes, respectively.

All Stars occasionally came into the picture with some daring runs into the goal area of the Porcupine Warriors but the only clear-cut chance that fell their way in the first half was squandered by Joshua Otoo who surprisingly failed to beat advancing goalkeeper Abdoulaye Soulama in a solo effort.

In the second half, Kotoko continued with their game plan by going all out in search of the match winner, however, All Stars remained resolute in defence and defended gallantly to end the match in regulation time barren to both sides.

The two teams in the extra time played a more cautious game till the 120 minutes ended still without a goal.

In the penalty shootout, Stephen Oduro converted Kotoko’s final kick to send his team through to the finals after All Stars defender Said Adnan missing one of their kicks.
