30-year old framer jailed for stealing cocoyam

Yaw Kesse, a 30-year-old farmer, was on Thursday sentenced to 16 months imprisonment by a Koforidua Magistrate’s Court for stealing cocoyam.

Kesse pleaded guilty to stealing cocoyam from his colleague farmer’s farm.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Emmanuel Bronya told the court presided over by Mrs Cynthia Wiredu that, the complainant and Kesse reside at Adaneagya in Koforidua.

He said the complainant had been experiencing theft on his farm at Oyoko-Obemba.

He said on June 30 someone who shares a boundary with the complainant was on his way to his farm when he saw Kesse with a fertilizer sack in the complainant’s farm uprooting cocoyam.

The prosecutor said the witness who knew Kesse called him by his name and asked him what he wanted on the farm.

Inspector Bronya said Kesse pulled out a cutlass and threatened to kill the witness if he dared inform the complainant, after which Kesse took to his heels.

He said the complainant, who got to know of the incident through the witness, dashed to his farm and detected that his cocoyam had been stolen.

He said a report was made to the police and Kesse was arrested.

The prosecutor said when Kesse was questioned by the police; he confessed having stolen the cocoyam and sold them to a woman.
