National Youth Authority Boss inaugurates ICT Centre at Takrowase

The Co-ordinator of the National Youth Authority (NYA), on Friday inaugurated a newly furnished Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, stocked with 20 computers and accessories at Takrowase Youth Training Institute in the Kwaebibirim District.

The programme was part of a visit of Mrs Sedinam Tamakloe Attienu, Attienu, to the 11 National Youth Training Institutions in the country to assess their progress and challenges.

She expressed worry about the deplorable state of the institutes she had visited so far saying “this is the fourth school I have visited, after Greater Accra, Volta and Central Regions, and I must say there is a lot to be done”.

Mrs Attienu said there was lack of equipment and poor remuneration of staff and gave the assurance that the NYA was in touch with some United Nations agencies for an assistance package.

She presented 10 laptop computers to the institute on behalf of the government and entreated the students and staff to make good use of the facility.

The Headmaster of the Institute, Mr Noah Mensah-Frempong, expressed gratitude to President John Evans Atta Mills who through the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Telecommunication had given the academic facility computers connected to the internet.

He outlined some challenges of the institute as low number of teaching staff, inadequate tools and equipment as well as classrooms and staff accommodation.

Mr Atta Mensah, Deputy District Co-ordinator of the NYA, urged the students to study hard in order to bring meaning to their training.

Mrs Attienu paid a courtesy call on the Takrowase Chief, Nana Owusu Nketsiah II and requested for a piece of land to put up developmental projects for the school.

The Chief called for the urgent completion of Girls Dormitory and Classroom block deserted in the town about 14 years ago.
