Mills administration seeks peace not revenge – Minister
Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, says the Mills administration seeks peace and the country’s accelerated development and not revenge of any kind.
He stressed that if the serene and peaceful atmosphere Ghanaians were enjoying was taken for granted, the country will be doomed and called on Christians and the rest of the populace to do their best in sustaining the peace.
Mr Marfo, who was addressing a large congregation of the Church of Pentecost in the Sunyani Area at the close of a four-day Easter Convention on Sunday, noted with regret that politics has taken over the media landscape, relegating important social and developmental issues to the background. .
He stated that “these political discussions lacked intellectual depth and inundated with loose talk and insults that did not auger well for the sustained development of the country.
The Regional Minister noted however that the media’s focus on politics could be attributed to the interest of Ghanaians in that area and called for constructive criticisms instead of politics of insults.
He said the government had put in place many interventions to make education affordable and accessible to all and urged parents to invest in their children’s education.
Apostle Joseph Albert Mensah, Area Head of the Church, in a sermon advised Christians to be disciplined in all endeavours and not to hide under the auspices of Christendom to commit atrocities.
He emphasized the need for all to reconcile with one another irrespective of political or cultural background as Christ reconciled mankind with God by shedding His blood on the Cross.
Preaching on the theme, “New Life in Christ” at the Wesley Cathedral of the Methodist Church in Sunyani, Very Reverend Oswald Samuel Boakye, Superintendent Minister in charge of Sunyani Circuit, asked Christians to let the celebration of Easter translate into the resurrection of their own lives.
The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from death should teach us to depart from our old ways, habits and attitudes that do not augur well for our own development, as well as the development of our nation, he said.
Rev Boakye stressed that paying tithes, dues, offertory and being active in church activities without a change of heart and from acts that did not create a good image for a Christian did not mean anything.
“We must take a cue that Christ died so that we can make amends with His Father and lead lives that conform with His teachings’, he said, adding Christians need to have a personal encounter with Christ to be able to progress in life and in faith.
The Superintendent Minister emphasized that Christians by celebrating Easter must realize that “we have lifted ourselves from problems and difficulties we face and that there is hope for the future”.
