Members of Parliament belonging to the NDC party from the Dagbon area have warned that nothing short of justice will be acceptable to the people of Dagbon until the killers of the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani, are brought to justice.
Alhaji Sumani Abukari, the leader of the Northern caucus in Parliament told a press conference at Parliament that a court ruling, which resulted in the acquittal and discharge of 14 suspects accused of murdering the Ya-Na resulted in a spontaneous reaction leading to violence in Dagbon and the Dagbon communities across the country.
Alhaji Abukari, also the NDC Tamale North MP, was speaking on behalf of the NDC MPs from the Dagbon area.
He said the ruling resulted in the burning of the NDC party offices in Tamale and Agblogbloshie in Accra.
“This reaction is informed largely by the fact that the Andanis feel justifiable betrayed that the ends of justice have not been served.”
He said as legitimate and justified that this may be as the death still remains a mystery and the perpetrators remain unidentified and unpunished, they are however calling for calm and urging government to take urgent measures to ensure that the people of Dagbon get justice in the matter of the death of the Ya-Na and his elders.
