CTO to appoint new CEO to replace Ghana’s Spio-Garbrah

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah

Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah announced in September 2010 that he was quitting the CEO post at the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) based in United Kingdom.

Following that announcement, the CTO is ready to appoint a new CEO to take over from the Ghanaian national.

According to the CTO, Spio-Garbrah decided to step down to pursue other personal interests in life, despite an invitation by some members of the CTO Council asking him to continue for another term as CEO.

“I am pleased that I have accomplished some of the most important tasks that I had set out to do when I joined the organisation, including having played a major role in building new partnerships, providing a much-needed business and commercial orientation to the deliverables of CTO, and recruiting staff who are poised to take the organization to its next level of growth and expansion”, Spio-Garbrah had said to the CTO.

Acquiring a permanent headquarters building for the organization, Spio-Garbrah says is one of the lasting legacies of his stewardship.

The successor to Dr. Spio-Garbrah is expected to be identified by May 2011 and he or she will be formally approved by the CTO Council at its meeting in Trinidad and Tobago September 15-16, 2011.
