Ten out of 12 Onyadze accident victims identified

Ten out of the 12 people who lost their lives in a road accident at Onyadze on the Winneba-Mankessim road in the early hours of Wednesday, January 19, 2011 have been identified.

They were Kojo Ninsin, Obusuapayin of Asona Clan of Mumford; Kojo Sekyi; Kwesi Ebum; Kwabena Tia; Joshua Mensah and Kofi Tetteh, the driver of the 207 bus.

The rest are Sister Adjoa, a seamstress who graduated last Sunday; Ekua Eduwaa; Esi Anabibi and Sister Araba.

The accident involving a 207 Mercedes Benz bus with registration number CR 447 P travelling from Mumford to Accra and a cargo truck with registration number ER 7024 X coming from the Accra direction, claimed 10 lives on the spot including the drivers of the two vehicles.

According to Chief Inspector Benjamin Allotey, officer in-charge of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Apam District Police Command, two other victims died at Apam Catholic and Winneba Government Hospitals.

Chief Inspector Allotey said how the cargo truck moved from its lane to collide with the 2007 bus in its lane suggested that the driver of the cargo truck had dozed off.
