Drivers urged to charge approved transport fares

The Afigya-Kwabre District Chief Executive, Mr  Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, has appealed to commercial  drivers to ensure that they charge the approved transport fares.

He said they should not hide behind the recent fuel price increase to cheat passengers.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku was addressing a meeting held with officials of the various transport associations operating in the District at Kodie.

The meeting followed complaints from the people about what they said were the imposition of arbitrary fares by some drivers.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said it was important for all to operate within the law.

He drew attention to the need for drivers to respect road traffic regulations and to help reduce the growing fatalities on the country’s roads.

The DCE praised the transport operators for their contribution towards the development of the area and urged them to continue to support the District Assembly.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said the Assembly on its part would do everything to assist the transport operators in their business.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sulley Ibrahim, Offinso Divisional Commander, said the police would check indiscipline on the roads and  bring offending drivers to justice.
