Ghana Police clamp down on traffic offenders
The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested 40 drivers and riders for violating road traffic regulations.
Out of those arrested, 22 were sent to court and fined various sums of money ranging from GH¢100 to GH¢720.
The police carried out the exercise in collaboration with the National Road Safety Commission, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority and executives of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Anthony Danso told the GNA in Wa on Thursday that the purpose of the exercise was to ensure discipline amongst drivers and motorbike riders in the Wa Municipality.
Riding without road worthy certificate, expired insurance, helmets, over speeding, insecure loading, wrong and double parking, as well as drunk driving, defective breaks and license system were some of the offences.
Mr Danso said the increasing indiscipline on the roads across all parts of the country was becoming a major cause of worry for the police, hence, its preparedness to put in every effort to reverse the situation.

This is long overdue, why authorities have waited far too long for such execise to proceed. A lot of these accident on Ghanaians road will not have occured if Ghana police and the law will have been strict to reduce speeding, irregularitieson the country’s roads.
