Court sentences purchasing clerk to 20 years in prison

A 30-year-old purchasing clerk, Moses Edward Amoah, was on Wednesday sentenced to 20 years in imprisonment in hard labour for stealing by a circuit court in Takoradi.

He pleaded guilty to stealing GH₵134, 000 from his employer.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Theophilus Agbemordzi said the accused worked as a purchasing clerk at “Mewuradzi Cold Store” in Takoradi.

He said on June 3, Mr Joseph Tawiah Pratt, the owner of the cold store, contacted his suppliers in Tema to ascertain the financial standing of the cold store.

He was told he owed them GH₵134, 000.

Mr Pratt inquired from the purchasing clerk about the money given him to pay the suppliers but he could not give any tangible answers and could not also produce the money.

His employer reported him to the police and he was arrested.
