Six companies donate towards Farmer’s Day

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture on Wednesday received donations from six companies towards this year’s farmer’s day.

The donation is the first in the series of presentations to be made to the Ministry.

The companies include Accra Breweries Limited, Continental Christian Traders limited (CCT), West Africa Market Links (WAML), Wienco Ghana Limited, Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited (GRC) and Cocoa, Coffee and Shea-nut Farmers Association.

Mr. Abraham Garshang, Director of Finance and Administration of WAHML, who presented the five motorbikes and five spraying machines, said WHML was donating these equipments to show appreciation for the handwork and efforts of farmers in the country.

“WAML has always shown interest in farmers and this is evident in our effort to help farmers acquire and practice the right methods for farming”, he added.

Mrs. Mary Ohene- Adu, Director of Corporate Affairs of GRC presenting a cheque of GH₵5000 said GRC valued the positive contributions of the nation’s gallant farmers towards the socio-economic growth of the country.

She said community service formed part of the bank’s social responsibility and decided to help put smiles on the faces of people who have contributed to national development.

Mr. Richard Edzeame, Technical Director of Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), who presented 180 crates of assorted drinks, said ABL was committed to support agricultural in the country.

“We have done that by using maize and sorghum in manufacturing most our beverages thereby creating avenue for sale of these products and creating sustainable, reliable and good price for product”, he said.

Alhaji Alhassan Bukari, National Chief Farmer of Cocoa, Coffee and Shea-nut Association, also presented a cheque of GH₵3000 said the gesture was in appreciation of efforts to encourage farmers to give of their best in the production of food and cash crops in the country.

Mr. Eric Osei- Owusu, Administrator of CCT donating presenting fishing gears and a cheque of GH₵5000 said it was the social responsibility of CCT to help fishermen acquire the right equipment to meet international requirement.

Mr. Abdallah Nii Commey, Information Director of Wienco Ghana, also presented farm equipments and seedlings worth GH₵30, 000 said the presentation formed part of the company’s social responsibility towards the celebration of the farmers day.

Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister for Food and Agriculture, who received the items expressed his appreciation and asked other companies and the general public to donate generously to reward the hardworking farmers.
