CPP outdoors shadow Cabinet

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) on Tuesday launched a “Shadow Cabinet” to champion the party’s governance agenda of self-determination, social justice and Pan Africanism.

The shadow cabinet’s programme of action agenda dubbed “How CPP Will Do IT When Elected into Government” would include weekly press conferences, periodic media briefings and issuance of statements that would focus on each sector of government.

Launching the shadow cabinet to mark the 101 Anniversary celebration of the birth of its Founder Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah in Accra, Mr Ladi Nylander, CPP Chairman, said the party sought to use the platform to consistently explain the basis of CPP’s thinking and its proposals on credible, achievable, cost-effective and human-centred alternatives for the way forward.

“I want to point out that these activities will not merely be reactive statements to the status quo, but positive, initiative, proactive, statements on how CPP aims to move Ghana progressively into the developed world within one generation, via channels and methods engineered to bring about the process of true social transformation,” Mr Nylander said.

The shadow cabinet, which is chaired by the chairman and leader of the party, Mr Nylander, was to offer policy alternatives and play its opposition watch-dog role in the governance of the country.

Members of the shadow cabinet are Dr Abu Sakara, Agriculture, Mr Eric Kwabena Benyarko, Environment, Science, Technology and Communications, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom – Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Henry Lartey, Trade and Industry.

Others are Mr George Opesika Aggudey – Interior, Prof Agyeman Badu Akosa, Health, Education, Youth and Sports, Hon Samia Nkrumah, Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Bright Akwetey, Attorney General and Justice, Wing Commander Pat Sorgbordjor (rtd), Defence and National Security.

The rest are Dr Adolf Lutterrodt, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr R .O. Frimpong–Manso, Local Government, Mrs Susan Adu–Amankwah, Environment and Social Welfare, Mr Felix Amoah, Works, Housing, Water and Roads and Mr Kwame Jantuah – Energy, Mines, Lands and Forestry.

Mr Nylander said the party would also translate into the various local dialects its massage of hope to the nation.

The Shadow Cabinet also has the mandate to take on the opposition and provide alternative government and a training ground for future Heads of State and Ministers.

Mr Nylander said their fist task would be the organisation a solid opposition to government policies that would not serve the larger interest of Ghanaians.

He suggested alternative policies based on the party’s home grown socialist ideology of Nkrumahism, self-determination, social justice and Pan Africanism.

Mr Nylander said the Shadow Cabinet was the fist step to the party achieving its aim of winning political power and transforming the country.
