MTN presents GH¢70,000 in support of GJA Awards

MTN, Ghana’s leading mobile company has presented a cheque of GH¢70,000 to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in support of the 15th GJA Awards scheduled for Saturday August 21, 2010.

The presentation was done at the International Press Centre by Mrs. Mawuena Trebarh, Corporate Services Executive of MTN.

MTN, which is the lead sponsor of the event, also presented additional items to the GJA. These include 40 modems, 40 data Sim Cards and assorted MTN souvenirs all amounting to a total sponsorship package of GH¢85, 000.

“MTN remains very committed to supporting the media, rewarding excellence in the field of journalism and would soon be introducing new strategies of keeping this relationship alive”, Mrs. Trebarh said. She also expressed MTN’s readiness to partner with the media.

Mr. Ransford Tetteh, GJA president who received the cheque, thanked MTN for the support.

The event which also coincides with the 61st anniversary of the GJA is on the theme; “Unethical Journalism and Corruption in the Media: A Danger to Democracy”. It will be held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, and 33 award winners in the individual and media organization categories will be honoured.

One of Ghana’s most outstanding high-life musician, Abrantie Amakye Dede will be performing.
