Medical assistant before court for signing medical reports

A Circuit Court Judge, Mr. D.E.K. Daketsey has ordered the arrest of a medical assistant for allegedly issuing and signing three medical reports for an accused person being tried for fraud.

Kenneth Kwame Kwarteng allegedly appended his signature as Dr. Kwarteng on three medical reports issued to Nana Yaw Asante, the accused for submission to the court.

Mr. Daketsey who smelled rat, ordered investigations into the reports tendered.

After concluding investigations, Kwarteng was charged with conspiracy, deceit of public officer and impersonation.

He pleaded guilty before a different Circuit Court and sentenced to GH¢240 fine or in default serve two months imprisonment.

In addition, Kwarteng would sign a bond to be of good behaviour.

His accomplice, Nana Yaw Asante is on the run.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) A. A. Annor, prosecuting, said Kwarteng works with Obaahemaa Memorial Clinic located at new Ashongman while Asante is before the court for an alleged fraud.

ASP Annor said Asante had forwarded three medical reports to the court and absented himself from court after being granted bail.

The prosecution said on February 28, 2010 after the third medical report was tendered in court, it issued an order to investigate the source of the reports.

He said on March 9, this year, a team of Police investigators visited Obaahemaa Clinic, met the convict and the owner and showed them a copy of the report and Kwarteng admitted being the author.

Prosecution said investigations showed that there were no records on Asante at the clinic and Kwarteng was arrested and in his cautioned statement, indicated that Asante visited the clinic on February 15, this year and diagnosed of Malaria but was treated and discharged.

Kwarteng said later Asante called and requested for a medical report to be forwarded to his employers in Japan.

He said Asante called on two occasions at the clinic for similar reports and he (Kwarteng) signed the medical reports on humanitarian grounds.
