Electricity rationing in Accra between March 21 and April 18

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) announced an outage on two of its three transmission lines serving Accra from Tema between Sunday, March 21 and Sunday, April 18, 2010, which would result in a shortfall in power supply.

The exercise would allow contractors a safe work environment to remove and re-string some portions of the existing 161 kV lines to new ones in Aboadze into the main switchyard in Tema

A statement signed by Albert Kwesi Quainoo, Head of Public Relations, said it had therefore requested the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to undertake a load management programme in Accra during off-peak and peak times.

It said the works would ensure the stability and security of the national grid and prevent the system from overloading during the outage.

It said the load management for specific days may be lower than what would be published depending on the transmission network conditions and availability of power generation from the Aboadze thermal plant in Takoradi.

“GRIDCo finds it important to carry out this work to improve service delivery to its customers and sincerely apologises to all for the inconveniences this will cause to them”.
