African accountants end three-day congress in Accra

BudgetThe Second Africa Congress of Accountants ended on Thursday with a call on the participants to develop innovative ideas to effect positive changes in their respective organisations and institutions.

The three-day Congress, which was organised by the Pan-African Federation of Accountants, in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ghana, was on the theme: “Africa’s Economic Growth, Accountability and Democracy.”

In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Seth Terkper, Minister of Finance, called for stricter measures to improve accountability and transparency of stewardship to achieve productivity in Africa.

He alluded to Ghana’s system of improving transparency, citing the Public Accounts Committee hearings that had been established since 2005 to promote accountability in public spending.
