Ghana poultry imports from US projected to fall to 36,400 metric tons in 2012

The volume of poultry products imported into Ghana from the US is projected to fall by 7,000 metric tons in 2012, a new data has shown.

Ghana imported 43,400 metric tons of US poultry at the end of 2011 – a rise from 30,000 metric tons in 2010.

According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) data, the volume of poultry imports into Ghana will fall to 36,400 in 2012.

The data was made known by Mr James H. Summer, President of the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) when a Ghanaian delegation paid a visit to the Council’s Head Office in Atlanta Georgia, the US on November 7, 2012.

Ghana’s largest poultry imports come from the European Union (EU). The USDA data indicates that Ghana imported 63,600 metric tons of poultry from the EU in 2011, up from 44,000 in 2010. It further projected that Ghana’s imports of the products will jump to 68,500 metric tons.

Brazil, one of the world’s largest producers of poultry, imported about 42,200 metric tons of the products in 2011 and it is expected to slump to 38,400 metric tons at the end of 2012.

Ghana also imported an average of 2,000 metric tons of poultry from Canada and Chile in 2011, according to the data.

Tyson Foods is one of the US companies that exports poultry products into Ghana.

    The writer comparism to Brazil imports why, as a nation we should be able to increase Paultry grow in Ghana with abundant lands and resources instead of killing local Paultry business with better leadership, vision which todays leaders are completely lost.
