Ghana congratulates new French leader

Ghana’s President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday congratulated Francois Hollande, President-Elect of France.

A statement signed by Mr Leslie K. Christian, Chief Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday, indicated that the President said: “I have received the news of your election as Head of State of the Republic of France.”

It said President Mills followed with keen interest the campaign for change in France and Europe by Hollande, and he (President Mills) was happy that the people of France accepted the message and elected him (Hollande) to lead the country.

According to the statement, the President said: “In this regard, I take the opportunity to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to you.”

The statement said, President Mills was looking forward to working closely with Hollande to enhance the cordial relations and fruitful cooperation which exist between Ghana and France for the mutual benefit of the people.

President Mills said: “Accept, Excellency, my best wishes for your good health and personal well-being for a successful tenure as President of the Republic of France.”
