Special Advisor to UN Boss describes Nigeria’s fuel subsidy removal as “bold and correct policy”

Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Special Advisor to the United Nations’ Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has described the withdrawal of subsidy on petroleum products in Nigeria by the government as “a bold and correct policy”.

According to a report by the Vanguard News January 6, 2012, Prof. Sachs said this when he paid a visit to the country’s President Goodluck Jonathan.

Prof. Sachs is cited by the publication as saying that the funds from the removal of subsidy would go into rapid infrastructural development and the health sector.

He commended the government for the move.
