Horizon Children’s Centre gets support from Builsa group

Bulubisa Meina Yeri (BMY), a social networking group on Facebook in collaboration with Nallem Clothing as part of the Christmas celebrations on Monday donated items worth GH¢1,000.00 to the Horizon Children’s Centre at Sandema in the Builsa District.

The items included a 21-inch flat screen television set, a microwave, a standing fan and five crates of assorted drinks.

Mr. Evans Akangyelewon Atuick, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Continuing Education and Inter-Disciplinary Research (CCEIR) at the University of Development Studies, presenting the items noted that the group had embarked on other charitable works which included a food bazaar for over 500 children.

He said realizing the needs of the children at the Centre, the group mobilized funds to purchase the items so as to help improve their welfare.

He stated that in an era where information flow was very pertinent, there was the need to get the television set for the inmates of the Centre, and called on them to use it enhance their knowledge, especially in the study of Mathematics and Science.

“Education is the only key to unlocking the door to poverty and entering the realms of riches and development” he said, and appealed to the children to take their studies seriously and disassociate themselves from bad friends.

Mr Akangyelewon Atuick called on the caretakers of the Centre to put the items to good use so that other generous organizations could make donations in future.

Convener and Administrator of the group, Mr. Afoko Winston Churchil admonished the caretakers to explore and develop the talents in the children.

He also suggested to them to venture into income generating projects like animal farming to help them meet some of their basic needs.

“In as much as people would come to your aid and smart as you may be, try to use your various talents to harness resources to help the Centre and I believe other people would support your efforts” he added.

Mr. Abobtey Joseph, Manager of the Centre, expressed delight for the gesture and said the items would be used for the intended purpose.

The Centre started mid 2000 to educate orphans in the area with major funding from Mrs. Heather Menezes, a Canadian girl child educationist.

He called on other benevolent groups to support the Centre to complete on-going projects that would make way for more children to be admitted.

Bulubisa Meina Yeri’s (BMY) ultimate aim is to fall on Bulsas in and around the world to harness resources to reach out to the needy in Bulsa District and beyond.
