CAMFED Ghana trains young entrepreneurs for job creation

Campaign for Female Education (Camfed-Ghana), in collaboration with the Master Card Foundation Partnership (MCFP) is undertaking an innovative programme aimed at grooming young entrepreneurs to establish businesses in their communities using appropriate technologies.

In line with this Camfed has selected 11 young girls from the West Gonja, Tamale North and South, Tolon/Kumbungu, Bole, Savelugu, Karaga and Gushiegu districts in the Northern Region and is exposing them to new knowledge, skills and how to access markets and financial services.

Madam Dolores Dickson, Executive Director of Camfed-Ghana, said this at a two-day: “National Orientation for innovation bursary programme,” for the selected candidates in Tamale on Wednesday.

She said under the programme the selected candidates would undergo internship with both local and foreign bushinesses to acquire practical working knowledge.

Mrs Millicent Achimboye, Bussiness Development Manager of Camfed-Ghana, said the programme was a 1-year project and would continue to select young ambitious girls from the communities and empower them with skills that would enable them establish business of their own and to become financially independent.

She urged the young entrepreneurs to be focused and try to see opportunities where others fail to see them and above all not to fear change but embrace it.

Mr Gilbert Sebik, the Northern Regional Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industries, said the Ministry was facilitating the creation of an enabling environment to allow people to establish business of their own.

He said in this regard the Ministry was willing to collaborate with NGOs to pull resources together to create jobs for the people.
