Ahanta Assembly involves public in budget reading

Mr Bright Ohene Appiah, the Ahanta West District Budget Officer, has said it is important to involve the general public in the budgetary making and reading process.

He said it was necessary to work together with the public in order to deepen their understanding of the budget and enable them to see the merits in the payment of rates and fees.

He said this when the Ahanta West District Assembly (AWDA) for the first time subjected its budget reading to public debate.

This enabled the public to air their views on the budget and called for an increase in the fines on stray animals in the community to help serve as a deterrent to others.

The people said animals including pigs, goats and sheep littered the town with their excreta making it untidy and destroyed the beauty of the community.

The assembly initially fixed the fines to be charged on stray animals at GHȼ5.00 per animal but was doubled to GHȼ10.00 as the people demanded.

The people called on the Assembly use the fines judiciously to benefit the entire district.

Mr Appiah said due to the success of the program, the assembly would intensify its educational drive in all the communities to create the awareness on the need for them to honour their civic responsibilities.
