Paul Ayamga, a Madina trotro driver, has been arrested by the Madina District Police for attempting to present a polythene bag containing leaves suspected to be Indian hemp to an inmate of the cell.

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Madina District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Mr. David Eklu said Ayamga purchased a number of sachets water in a polythene bag with the intention of presenting them to his friend at the cell.

When he arrived at the Police Station he was asked by the Counter Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) to move behind the counter to present his items to Mr. Wale Fuseini, the friend in the cell.

Whilst giving the water to the friend, the NCO noticed a transparent polythene bag compressed with leaves suspected to be Indian hemp hidden under the sachets of water.

When Ayamga was asked how he came by it, he said, it was the Mr. Wale Fuseini who asked him to buy the items. The police quickly arrested him.

According to Commander Eklu, the suspected leaves would be sent for forensic examination. He said if found out to be wee, he would face prosecution.

The Station Officer Chief Inspector Stephen Buadu said items such as cigarettes, Indian hemp, cocaine, heroine, alcohol drink, and mobile-phones could be given to a suspect in Police cell.

Chief Inspector Buadu warned further that even if any inmate of the cell was sick, the public had no right to purchase any prophylactics for him for treatment.

He added that it was the responsibility of the Police to send inmates who are sick to receive medical attention.
