Goldfields ups Ghana Black Stars annual sponsorship package to $1.5m

Gold miner, Goldfields Ghana Limited today August 30, 2011 signed a new deal with the Ghana Football Association on the sponsorship package for the senior national football team, the Black Stars.

According to the Ghana FA, the new deal will see a rise in the sponsorship package for the Black Stars from $1.2 million per year to $1.5 million. The deal runs till next year 2012.

Goldfields first signed on to sponsor the Black Stars in 2005 for three years which  was subsequently extended to 2011 by the mining company with operations in Tarkwa and Damang in the Western Region of Ghana, the FA said on its website.

Meanwhile, Chad’s Cordien Adan  has been named as the referee to handle the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier between Ghana and Swaziland to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium September 2, 2011 at 18:00 GMT.
