Joseph Agbeko

International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion, Joseph Agbeko takes on undefeated rising star and World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver 118-pound titleholder Abner Mares later this year.

The fight which is scheduled for Saturday, August 13, 2011 is dubbed “The Bantamweight Tournament Final: Winner Takes All” and it will take place at the Hard Rock arena in Las Vegas where Joseph Agbeko had his first fight.

“I had my first fight in Vegas at Hard Rock and won by knock out.  I’m happy to be back,” he told reporters during a press conference in Las Vegas on July 14, 2011.

According to SHOWTIME, Agbeko was very much optimistic that he will defeat Abner Mares to win the title.

“I know that we have both fought Vic Darchinyan and Yonnhy Perez.  He survived that but he will not survive me,” SHOWTIME said citing Joseph Agbeko.

Agbeko’s prediction is that the announcer will say “And STILL IBF bantamweight champion of the world…”

If Agbeko wins the fight, it will make him the best 118-pounder in the world.

Agbeko’s promoter Don King said the fight “will be dedicated to W.E.B. DuBois.  He died in 1993 in Ghana and now the mantle has fallen on Joseph Agbeko to win for his Ghanaian people.”

Agbeko is in a very fine and very prepared to defeat Abner. He is a combination of two great Ghanaian boxers and he has perfected their master cards,ie, Azumah Nelson’s attacking prowess and Ike Quartey’s unpenetrating defense and guard. Trust me Agbeko will win this fight.
