NPA to look at interests of petroleum consumers

Many drivers and members of the public in the Upper West Region says they feel cheated anytime they buy petroleum products at some filling stations in the Wa Municipality.

Mallam Karimu Yussifu, a driver at the Wa- Kumasi station alleged that because many of the drivers did not have formal education and therefore could not read or write some filling station attendants took advantage of the situation to cheat them.

These complains came up during a sensitisation campaign programme organised by officials of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) in Wa.

Madam Eunice Asiedua Kotoku, Consumer Services Officer of the NPA warned filling station attendants to desist from under hand dealings that violated the interests of costumers.

She said the Consumer Services Unit of NPA would carry out research into the concerns raised by fuel consumers regarding the purchase and usage of petroleum products.

The Unit had therefore embark on sensitisation campaigns to ascertain the inconveniences consumers go through, regarding delivery, adulteration and other practices.

Madam Kotoku said NPA had the welfare of consumers at heart and they should not hesitate to seek redress when they felt cheated.

She advised drivers and motorists to call on 08002300 free of charge to lodge complain to the NPA Consumer Unit.

Madam Kotoku said if consumers knew the quantity of fuel dispensed at any filling station, they could cross check the delivery status of the pump with the 10 litre standard measure certified by Ghana Standard Board at the station.
