Assembly Members undergo orientation course

A two-day orientation course for 66 newly elected and appointed assembly members of the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District has ended with a call on members to unite devoid of political differences for the  development of the District.

Mr Peter Light Koomson, District Chief Executive who made the call expressed the hope that the course would equip the members to play their oversight role effectively.

The participants were taken through; “contemporary issues and local governance”, “the roles and responsibilities of district assembly functionaries, participation and accountability”.

Other areas include; “model standing orders”, “resource mobilisation” and “the committee systems as enshrined and supported by Act 462 of the constitution”.

The training session was sponsored by the Institute of Local Government Studies) ILGS) and the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council.

Mr Opare Duncan, Director at the Regional Co-ordinating Council advised the participants to take the course seriously to facilitate the success story of the assembly.

Mr Prosper Kesetyor of the ILGS Monitoring Team asked the assembly members to be abreast of the needs of the people they represent.
