Oil marketing companies initiate workplace safety campaign

The Association of Oil Marketing Companies of Ghana (AOMC) on Saturday initiated an industrial campaign to review the status of safety awareness on the management of petroleum products to avert accidents.

Mr Kwaku Agyemang Duah, AOMC Industrial Co-ordinator told the Ghana News Agency that the campaign seeks to consolidate laws relating to safety in the transportation, storage and utilisation of petroleum products.

He said the AOMC safety campaign was opening a new working relationship with regulatory authorities including Environmental Protection Agency to ensure compliance.

Mr Agyemang Duah said: “Public education on petroleum product safety would be intensified and broaden while simple guideline leaflets would be circulated and planted at vantage point to instruct customers at filling stations.”

Speaking at a quarterly think-tank discussion on “Safety at the Workplace,” Mr Richard Debrah, a Safety Practitioner exposed operators in the industry to safety guiding principles; requirements for an organised accident prevention process and accident prevention tools.

Other issues discussed are risk analysis, safety training, planned safety observations, planned safety inspections, accident investigations, reporting and follow-up, evaluating safety performance, promoting behavioural safety, budgeting for safety and health.

The AOMC think-tank forum is part of a systematic and deliberate quarterly development series for its members to update their technical business understanding of the industrial trend.
