Traditional rulers told to create healthy atmosphere

Traditional rulers have been advised to pursue peace and do away with succession disputes, litigations, prolonged conflicts, multiple sale of lands and other forms of corrupt practices.

Madam Benyiwa-Doe, Central Regional Minister, was addressing a grand durbar of chiefs and peoples from the Central, Western and Ashanti Regions to climax the 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebrations of Okokodurfo Nana Kwamena Hammah Ababio II, Omanhen of Ajumako Traditional Area.

The Central Regional Minister who deputized for the President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, also advised traditional rulers and other custodians of lands to ensure a proper survey, re-demarcation and registration of such lands to avoid future conflicts.

The Minister, who was accompanied by National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives on behalf of the local MP and the NDC, presented one brand new Mercedes Benz C180 Elegant car to the Omanhene in appreciation of his tireless efforts to develop the district over the past 50 years.

A special citation that outlined his achievement accompanied the offer including one special kente cloth, GH¢1,000 from the President.

Present to grace the occasion was the representative of Asantehene, Otumfoo Osei Tutu II, Nana Kwame Kusi II, the Ankobeahene of Ashanti and his entourage who displayed some Ashanti rich culture and memories to crown the anniversary celebration.

The Omanhene, Nana Kwamena Hammah Ababio II, in his acceptance speech expressed appreciation to all and sundry, especially the donors and described the offer as “a surprised package and a dream fulfilled.”

He also expressed concern about the slow pace of construction work on the new District Hospital and appealed to the Regional Minister “to carry the sad news to the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Health and the government”.
