Assembly members urged to be innovative in revenue generation

Nii Armah Tackie, Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, has appealed to assembly members in the Municipality to be innovative and come out with measures by which they could generate revenue to support activities in their electoral areas.

“I urge you to be mindful of issues relating to development and
take a critical look at how to exploit the revenue sources available to the Assembly in your electoral areas for the benefit of all,” he said.

Nii Armah Tackie who was speaking during a swearing-in ceremony for 36 assembly members in the Ga West Municipal Assembly, appealed to the members to be mindful of the challenges ahead of them and work as a team in addressing the challenges of the Municipality.

He urged them to eschew all partisan issues and to work towards the betterment of the people in their electoral areas and the municipality as a whole.

Nii Armah Tackie appealed to them not to regard themselves as a privileged group but as stewards with responsibility to serve the people and meet the objectives of the government and decentralization.

He mentioned inadequate social and economic infrastructure, low revenue generation, land and chieftaincy disputes, poor road network and high illiteracy as some of the challenges facing the Municipality.

The Ga West Municipal Assembly is made up of 36 members made up of 25 elected members and 11 government appointees from all the 25 electoral areas.

The Assembly members were sworn into office by Madam Betty Rose Abbey who was from the Chief Justice’s Office.

The assembly failed to elect presiding members after close door negotiations among the executive of the Assembly.

Mrs Elizabeth Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education who represented the President, urged the members to come out with measures aimed at addressing challenges faced by the municipality.

She urged them to attend Municipal Assembly meetings and maintain close contact with their electorate.
