Ghana Embassy in China to liase for success of Mills’s trip
Ghana Embassy in China is poised to effectively play its liaison role between the Governments of Ghana and China to facilitate the realization of development packages agreed upon for Ghana following President Atta Mills’ recent visit.
The embassy would work to ensure that the support and assistance that the Chinese Government pledged to give to Ghana during President Mills State visit to China become a reality.
Mrs Helen Maamle Coffie, Ghana’s Ambassador to China, described President Mills’ visit to China as extremely successful on many levels.
In an interview with Journalists in Beijing on Sunday, Mrs Coffie said Accra and Beijing aim at focusing on macro economic development, programme initiations that would create jobs and ultimately result in an improved standard of living for their mutual benefit.
“With China as the second largest economy in the world, and currently the number one investor in Ghana, a partnership between the two countries will place Ghana on the forefront as an African country that is thriving and competitive on a global scale,” Mrs Coffie said.
Relation between Ghana and China dates back to more than 50 years. The two countries also celebrated the establishment of diplomatic relations last July.
According to the Ambassador, interactions between the two nations have been governed by mutual trust and respect for each other, and President Mills’ visit presented an opportunity for the two nations to strengthen their co-operation and partnership.
She said the quantum of the package agreed upon that ran into billions of dollars in loan agreements was unprecedented in the annals of Ghana, adding “the bilateral agreements and the Memoranda of Understanding signed will support a partnership vision driving Ghana’s economic development priorities.
“The President’s compelling vision of Better Ghana, to transform Ghana’s economy has begun with this State visit,” Mrs. Coffie said.
She added: “the President also met with Ghanaians in China and had a chance to listen to their ideas and comments. I thank God for a very productive State visit, which will result in positive developments in Ghana.”
During the trip, President Mills, accompanied by a delegation of Ministers, Ghanaian entrepreneurs and business people, held bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao.
A number of loan facilities on the energy and allied sectors, road and rails transport, an ICT package from the Huawei Communication Company, and a loan agree with Bosai Bauxite for the revival of Ghana’s bauxite and aluminium Company.
President Mills addressed African Ambassadors and the Ghanaian Community in China.
The President has since returned home, in line with Ghana’s constitution to officially declare the 2010 National Population and Housing Census open on Sunday September 26.
