Bench warrant issued for KOKA over court absence
An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kweku Osei Korankye Asiedu, also known as KOKA, after he failed to appear to answer criminal charges.
The court adjourned the case to August 25, 2026.
The warrant was issued after the prosecution informed the court that Asiedu, a marketer and communicator of the New Patriotic Party, had been notified to appear but was absent when the case was called.
Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, prosecuting, told the court that Asiedu had been duly warned to attend the proceedings but failed to do so.
The prosecution said Asiedu is facing charges of threat of death and false communication.
According to the facts presented, the complainants are staff of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The prosecution alleged that on July 14, 2026, Asiedu was questioned over a video circulating on social media in which he allegedly threatened EOCO staff.
It further alleged that in a video recorded on May 29, 2026, Asiedu stated: “We know the officers houses, we know where they stay and will kill you.”
The prosecution also alleged that on July 13, 2026, Asiedu circulated another video claiming that “there is an order from above, the Presidency, that no one should bring food to Dennis Miracles Aboagye” while he was in EOCO custody assisting with investigations.
According to the prosecution, the publication was intended to provoke a breach of the peace and undermine the lawful duties of EOCO officials.
The prosecution alsor alleged that following the publication, the driver of the Executive Director of EOCO was pursued by about 20 unidentified men on motorbikes with the intention of harming him.
It said the incidents caused fear among EOCO personnel carrying out their lawful duties.
The prosecution told the court that following his arrest, Asiedu admitted the offences during police investigations after he was cautioned.
The court subsequently issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear.
