CAF sanctions Morocco and Senegal for misconduct during AFCON 2025 final
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued suspensions and fines against Morocco and Senegal for misconduct during the African Cup of Nations final.
Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi was suspended for two official CAF matches, with one of the matches suspended for one year from the date of the ruling.
Midfielder Ismaël Saibari received a three-match suspension for misconduct and was fined $100,000.
The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) was fined $200,000 for what CAF described as inappropriate conduct by the stadium’s ball boys during the match.
CAF said the behaviour breached organisational and fairplay obligations.
The FRMF was also fined $100,000 after Moroccan players and technical staff entered the VAR review area and obstructed the referee’s work, actions CAF said violated principles of fair play and integrity under Articles 82 and 83 of its disciplinary code.
A further $15,000 fine was imposed on the federation for the use of laser lights by its supporters during the final.
CAF said the sanctions were issued in line with its disciplinary framework and aimed at reinforcing matchday conduct standards across African football.

CAF says it is has also launched an investigation into incidents it described as improper behaviour during the match, including by players and officials.
Pape Bouna Thiaw, the head coach of Senegal, received a five-match suspension for official CAF games for what the CAF called unsporting behaviour that damaged the sport’s reputation and breached fair play and integrity rules.
Thiaw was also fined $100,000.
Two Senegal players, Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr, received two-match bans for unsporting behaviour towards the referee during the final.
CAF imposed three separate fines on the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF). The federation was fined $300,000 for the behaviour of its supporters, which CAF said damaged the image of the game.
A further $300,000 fine was issued for unsporting conduct by players and technical staff. CAF said their actions breached rules on fair play, loyalty and integrity.
The FSF received an additional $15,000 penalty after five Senegal players were cautioned in the match, an offence classified as team misconduct under CAF regulations.
CAF said the sanctions were issued in line with the organisation’s disciplinary code.
