SFO invites two officials from School Feeding Programme for questioning

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has invited two officials from the National School Feeding Programme for their alleged role in financial malfeasance.

A source at the SFO who made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra at the weekend, said the Senior Accountant, Ebenezer Donkor and Kwame Nuako, a technical advisor, were invited for questioning and granted bail after they had written their caution statements.

He said the 2007- 2008 audit review undertaken by the Audit Service revealed that Donkor arbitrarily spent 2, 500 Ghana cedis on X, mas bonus and had not ensured that the money was refunded.

Donkor also failed to pay a five per cent withholding tax of 117,000 Ghana cedis to the Internal Revenue Service.

The source said the two employees were facing a number of charges bothering on bad accounting practices, which include inflating official figures to achieve criminal intent.

A report signed by Mr Augustine R.K. Deputy Acting Auditor General last year, said the two officials were culpable of negligence and poor record keeping.

When the GNA contacted authorities at the school feeding programme they confirmed that the two were invited by the SFO last week for questioning and declined to comment further.
