Boy drowns in Ashaiman dam, six others die in Adjeikojo stream on rainy Sunday

A 13-year-old boy  drowned in the Ashaiman dam whilst  swimming with his friends at night.

The deceased, Master Kwodjoe Acquah, affectionately called Agya Acquah, was said to have gone to the dam site Sunday night in the company of his friends to swim when the incident occurred.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday, the father of the boy, Mr. Kwesi Acquah, said he went to visit a patient at the hospital with his other children and on his return could not find the boy at home.

“Then I inquired and found out that he had gone with some friends to Lebanon to swim in the

dam,” Mr. Acquah narrated.

He said they went to the dam site to look for him but could not find him and therefore lodged a complaint at the Ashaiman Police Station.

He was informed the following morning that the body has been discovered at the dam.

He subsequently went to the dam in the company of the police where the body was identified.

The father, who has financial challenges, has pleaded with the general public to assist him bury the body.

In a related development, six persons were reported drowned in one of the Sakumo Lagoon feeder streams at Adjei Kojo in the Tema West Municipality.

This was after  a military pick-up veered off a bridge and plunged into the fast flowing water body during the Sunday deluge. Several passengers who were travelling in the bucket of the truck were rescued but the six who were in the cabin were swept away.

National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) mounted a search Sunday night and continued until four bodies were recovered.
