Ghana Data Science Summit 2019 set for April 25

A Ghanaian-based analytics start-up, Wave-2 Analytics Limited, will organise the maiden Ghana Data Science Summit 2019 from April 25 to April 27, 2019 at the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.

Dubbed: “IndabaX Ghana” the three-day event, aims to bring increased awareness and capacity building efforts in data science and analytics (including data mining, machine learning, and artificial learning) to Ghana.

The event, being sponsored by Deep Learning Indaba, Google, and Microsoft, would be on the theme: “The Promise of Data Science for Economic Transformation.”

Other partners would include Python Ghana, the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Ghana, and BACE GROUP.

A statement issued in Accra by the organisers and copied to the Ghana News Agency said, Ghana’s contribution to the data science revolution was long overdue and the event would assemble some experts driving change at the forefront of data science and machine intelligence from all over the world.

The statement said the summit would treat its attendees to a series of lectures, panel discussions, and training sessions (tutorials) on Data Management, Business Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and hands-on tutorials.

It said the best practices regarding data collection and management as well as machine intelligence would be discussed by accomplished experts with illustrations with the right technology to ensure successful analytical product delivery.

It said the summit would be opened to all students, researchers, industry practitioners and leaders, and anyone interested in learning and applying data science in their professional lives.

“The Ghana Data Science Summit 2019, comes at no cost to participants by courtesy of our partners and sponsors,” it added, although participants needed to apply and be selected through a competitive application process.

Some of the confirmed Speakers would include; Delali Agbenyegah, Director, Data Science and Analytics, Express, Columbus OH, USA, Darlington Akogo, Founder and Director of Artificial Intelligence, MinoHealth AI Labs, Ghana and Danielle Belgrave, PhD, Microsoft Research, Cambridge, UK.

The rest would be Moustapha Cisse, PhD, Head of Google AI Center, Accra, Ghana, Ayorkor Korsah, PhD, Head of Department of Computer Science, Ashesi University, Ghana, Shakir Mohamed, PhD, Research Scientist, DeepMind, UK, and John Aidoo, Data Analytics Manager, Central Insurance Companies, USA, and Richard Ackon, Ghana.
