Expedite action on making new university autonomous – Navro Pio

Dennis Aneakwoa Belinia Adda, Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area has called on government to expedite action on the provision of autonomous status of the Navrongo campus of the University for Development Studies.

The Navro-Pio said the development of the university is key to the growth of the Upper East Region and called on stakeholders to work towards realizing President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo –Addo’s agenda of raising the status of the university to an autonomous one.

The chief stressed that education is the third pillar and very crucial after health and food, hence the call to speed up its autonomy.

He thanked the President for his plans to grant autonomy to the UDS in Navrongo, and prayed that the decision will be made a reality.

The Paramount chief stated that his traditional council will support the development of the university, saying that, “My traditional council has lands in Gaane, in the Kologo traditional area, whilst lands near Pungu, Navio and Manyoro would be made available for the development of the university”.

Pe- Adda noted that, the presence of the Navrongo Research Center plays a significant role in the region and therefore there was the need to consider its relevance when establishing the new university, which will be an Applied Science and Technology based university.

The Paramount Chief appealed to the President to establish a Teaching Hospital in the area to support the new university, adding that, these would improve on science education and research programmes in the region.
