Rwanda says it registered over $2b of investments in 2018

The Rwanda Development Board says it it registered 173 investment projects in 2018. The total of the investments, it added is $2.006 billion. The Board said it set a target of $2 billion for the year.

In press release issued and copied to ghanabusinessnews.com Tuesday January 8, 2019, the Board said the amount is an increase of $331 million, approximately 20 per cent compared to the investments it registered in 2017. In 2017, the Board said it registered $1.6 billion worth of investments.

According to the Board, an estimated 26 per cent of the total investments registered in 2018, represents export oriented projects across sectors. Manufacturing, mining, agriculture and agro-processing accounted for 57 per cent of investments registered. Other sectors that attracted significant investments were tourism, healthcare, business services and ICT.

The largest share of the 2018 investment registrations or 49 per cent, it said was posted by domestic investors, while Foreign Direct Investment registrations represented 47 per cent of the total.

Joint ventures (local and foreign investors) represented the balance of approximately 4 per cent of all investments registered during the year. In comparison, in 2017, domestic investment registrations accounted for 28 per cent of the total, while foreign investment registrations represented 62 per cent and joint ventures the remaining 10 per cent, it added.
