Ghanaian workers asked to plan pension to enjoy comfortable retirement

Ghanaian workers have been advised not to wait until they about to retire from active service before they start planning for their pension.

Mr. Joshua Ansah, Deputy Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), said they should take up viable investment policies that would yield good returns during their early working days.

That, he said, was the way to go to assure themselves of comfortable and fulfilling retirement.

He reminded them that it took discipline and commitment to achieve this.

Mr. Ansah was addressing a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Council of Labour in Kumasi.

In attendance were representatives of the various District Councils of Labour from across the region.

The event was used to elect new regional officers of the council.

Mr. Ansah said the TUC as part of its commitment to encourage workers to pay attention to their retirement had established a social protection department to counsel workers on the best way to plan their retirement.

He encouraged active participation of the youth and women in the activities of the labour unions to make the workers’ front more formidable.

Ms. Cynthia Maame Aba Sam Amanoo was elected the new Regional Secretary, with Mr. Augustine Acquah, as her deputy, Mr. Kofi Asare Asiano, Chairman, and Mr. Emmanuel Kwarteng Amaning, Trustee.
