Boy 12, electrocuted in heavy rainstorm

The torrential rains that hit the Sekondi -Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly in the late hours of Tuesday, resulted in the death of a young school boy.

The boy, said to be about 12 years old was allegedly electrocuted around the old Accra station area near the Takoradi Market Circle at about 4 pm on Tuesday.

Mr. Emmanuel Opoku, an eye witness told the GNA that the boy in an attempt to seek refuge under a container got electrocuted and was pronounced dead at the Seventh Day Adventists Hospital in Takoradi.

The flood, submerged gutters and ripped off roofs in some parts of the city including the Takoradi Market Circle, Lagos, Nkenya, Diabene, Kwesiminstim and Anaji township.

The impact of the floods left workers who had closed from work, stranded under sheds and stores in and around the Central Business District.

Many of the residents in the affected areas spent many hours sweeping flood waters from their homes whiles rescuing their belongings.

The rainstorm also rendered some policemen at the Effiakuma Police Barracks homeless when the aged old mud houses could not withstand the storm.
