Chief warns students who abuse drugs

Nana Asare Bentum III, Chief of Gye Wani Nkwanta, near Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, has warned students indulging in negative habits such as drug abuse to desist from the practice.

He expressed concern about increasing reports of students engaging in anti-social activities such as alcoholism and sexual promiscuity and called for concerted efforts to address the trend.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, at a Parent-Teacher Association meeting at the Local Authority School at Gye Wani Nkwanta, the Chief advised students to be law-abiding and obedient in order not to be branded as agents of destruction.

He used the interaction to call on parents and school authorities to work together, to help students to use their study periods judiciously.

Mr Benjamin Adu Ofosu, Headmaster of the School, noted that the performance of students in the Junior High School had declined in recent years and blamed the trend on lack of teaching and learning materials, and the accommodation constraints facing teachers.

Mr Ofosu asked citizens of the area to support government’s efforts at improving fiscal infrastructure and making conditions favourable for quality education.
