Two accused robbers freed for lack of prosecution

Two accused persons standing trial for robbery, have been freed by a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice William Boampong for lack of prosecution.

Abdul Aziz Osman and Haruna Farouk both 22 years old were arrested for allegedly taking part in a robbery operation that left one person killed at Akwatialine in Kumasi on December 26, last year.

Prior to the filing of “nolle prosequi’ by the Attorney General, they had made six court appearances and their pleas not taken.

A Chief State Attorney, Mr William Kpobi, had not explained why the court decided that the case should not continue.

The two together with two others on the run allegedly attacked and robbed some residents in Akwatialine of their monies and other valuables at about 0100 hours on the last Boxing Day.

They reportedly shot one Ibrahim Fuseini with a locally manufactured pistol after seizing an unspecified amount of money and his cellular phone.

He died shortly on arrival at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he was rushed to by neighbours for treatment.

Osman and Farouk were later identified by some of the victims and arrested.

A pistol found on them, which was suspected to have been used to commit the crime was sent to Accra for police forensic examination but the report is yet to be received.
