Man fined GH¢220 for stealing grasscutters

A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Monday fined Stephen Cudjoe 38, GH¢220 on his own plea for stealing two grasscutters valued at GH¢100.

In default, Cudjoe would serve three months imprisonment in hard labour.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Albert Deletsa said the complainant, Richard Essien a trader residing at Airport Ridge near Takoradi rears grasscutters at Egyam in the Ahanta West District where the accused lives.

He said during the night of December 13 this year, the accused stole two pregnant grasscutters from their cage while the complainant was asleep.

ASP Deletsa said the complainant conducted his own investigations, arrested the accused and handed him over to the police on December 19.

He said during interrogation, the accused admitted the offence and said he had sold them to one Yarebayewo who is at large for GH¢11.

ASP Deletsa said after investigations, the accused was charged with the offence.
