Head-on crash on Ajumako-Kokoben road kills three, injures 11
Three people died on the spot and 11 others sustained injuries in a head-on collision on the Ajumako–Kokoben stretch of the road in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
The accident occurred at about 1600 hours and involved a private Toyota Isuzu pick-up truck with registration number GE 1361-25 and a commercial Toyota Voxy with registration number CN 478-26.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Voxy allegedly travelling at a high speed, attempted to overtake another vehicle while visibility was poor.
A thick cloud of dust from ongoing road works on the Asikuma–Ajumako stretch reportedly blurred the vision of the Voxy driver and he did not see the oncoming Isuzu vehicle, resulting in a violent head-on collision.
The driver of the pick-up and two female passengers of the Voxy were pronounced dead at the scene.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged and several occupants became trapped and subsequently extricated.
The injured were handed over to the Ghana National Ambulance Service and other medical teams who took them to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Ghana Police Service has opened an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
