Over 61,000 candidates to sit for 2026 TVET Certificate II examinations

Sulemana Zakaria -Director-General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).

A total of 61,506 candidates from public and private Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country will sit for the 2026 TVET Certificate II examinations.

The examinations are scheduled to commence on Monday, May 18 and end on Friday, June 12, 2026.

Out of the total number, 59,754 candidates will sit for the Certificate II examinations, while 1,752 candidates will write other traditional TVET examinations.

The figure represents an 8.06 per cent increase over last year’s 55,295 candidates for the Certificate II examinations.

Mr Sulemana Zakaria, the Director-General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), announced this at a press conference in Accra on Thursday.

He said the increase in candidature reflected growing confidence and participation in technical and vocational education in Ghana.

Out of the total number of candidates, 45,357, representing 73.7 per cent, are males, while 16,149, representing 26.3 per cent, are females.

Mr Zakaria noted that 170 persons with disability, made up of 92 males and 78 females, had also registered for the examinations, reflecting efforts towards promoting inclusivity and equitable access within the TVET sector.

He disclosed that 278 public and private pre-tertiary TVET institutions would participate in this year’s examinations, which would be conducted at 169 examination centres nationwide.

“These figures not only demonstrate the expanding reach of TVET in Ghana, but also underscore government’s commitment to skills development, workforce readiness, and human capital development as key drivers of national transformation,” he said.

Mr Zakaria revealed that the maiden implementation of the Interim Harmonised Curriculum (IHC) for all TVET institutions realigned to the Ministry of Education and CTVET under the Educational Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), would begin from Monday, May 18 to Monday, May 25, 2026 for the core subjects.

The elective subject examinations would run from Thursday, May 28 to Friday, June 12, 2026.

He explained that under the new arrangement, there would be no separate examinations for NVTI, TEU and the former NABPTEX, as all TVET institutions would write the same examinations simultaneously across all centres nationwide.

The IHC for pre-tertiary TVET institutions comprises six generic or core courses and 30 elective or trade areas.

However, candidates would be examined in only four core subjects namely; English Language, Integrated Science, Mathematics and Social Studies or Entrepreneurship.

He added that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) would not be examinable in the Certificate II examinations.

Mr Zakaria urged candidates to approach the examinations with confidence, honesty, discipline and integrity, and cautioned them against relying on leaked or fake examination questions circulated on social media.

“True success is built on hard work, competence, and character. Remember that the certificate you earn through honest effort will remain a source of pride and credibility throughout your career and professional journey,” he said.

He cautioned supervisors, inspectors, invigilators, examination officials and security personnel to uphold professionalism, vigilance, impartiality and ethical conduct throughout the examination period.

Mr Zakaria warned that any act of negligence, collusion, intimidation or examination malpractice would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the laws governing the examinations and the laws of Ghana.

The TVET Certificate II examination is a key national assessment conducted for students in technical and vocational institutions to evaluate practical and academic competencies acquired during training.

Ghana has in recent years intensified reforms in the TVET sector to harmonise curricula, improve skills training and align education with industry and labour market demands.
