Police bust suspected drug operation at Odumase-Krobo, foil GH¢100,000 bribe

Three persons have been arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command for unlawful possession of suspected narcotics following an intelligence-led operation at Odumase-Krobo that also exposed an attempted GH¢100,000 bribe.

According to a press release signed by Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku of the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern Regional Police Command, the operation was carried out on May 10, 2026, after officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) received information about narcotic drugs allegedly being stored at Akosombo-Blornya.

The release stated that during surveillance operations near Krobo Girls Senior High School, police intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GR 5724-15 and followed it to a secluded area near Atua Government Hospital.

The Police said officers found suspects transferring sacks from the Hyundai truck into a Howo Zonda tipper truck with registration number GN 7948-21.

Upon spotting the officers, the suspects reportedly fled into nearby bushes, leaving behind the vehicles and the suspected narcotics.

According to the statement, a search conducted by the police led to the retrieval of 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian hemp.

The release disclosed that shortly after the operation, a 39-year-old welder identified as Solomon Tettey, a resident of Atua, approached the police and claimed ownership of the vehicles and the consignment, which he allegedly said was being transported to Nigeria.

“Solomon Tettey later attempted to bribe the officers with GH¢100,000 to obstruct investigations” the statement said.

Officers, according to the release, strategically pretended to accept the offer to secure evidence.

The suspect reportedly transferred GH¢90,000 through Mobile Money and handed over an additional GH¢10,000 in cash.

The statement said officers from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), together with personnel from the Odumase Police Command, subsequently arrested Solomon Tettey.

Two other suspects, identified as Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later arrested after reporting to the Regional Police Headquarters.

“The suspects together with all exhibits retrieved during the operation have been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (RCID) for further investigations and possible prosecution,” the statement noted.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, integrity and the fight against drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region.
