Former Minister urges Ghana to prioritise translation of science to improve lives

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister of Education, has called on Thrivus University biomedical graduates to look beyond academic research and become active advocates for practical application of scientific knowledge to improve human lives globally.
Addressing a graduation ceremony for biomedical innovators, the former minister emphasised that the future of the industry depends heavily on translation—the process of turning laboratory discoveries into real-world solutions.
“Graduates, I urge you to become more than conveyors of knowledge; become its advocates,” the former minister stated, adding, “Build bridges between science and society. Inform policymakers, industry, and communities. The future of biomedical innovation depends not just on discovery but on translation.”
He noted that every young researcher entering the workforce represented a significant step toward a more equitable and healthier global future, highlighting the profound responsibility held by the new professionals. He stressed that they carry the hopes of their supporters and the potential to leave a lasting mark on the world.
Dr Adutwum urged the graduates to challenge existing assumptions, collaborate across international borders, and embrace failure as a necessary component of the discovery process.
“Above all, remember that at the heart of every intersection, every experiment, every breakthrough is a human life waiting to be improved,” the former minister reminded the audience.
He further expressed absolute confidence in the capabilities of the new graduates to lead the next wave of biomedical innovation.
