First baby born on board ITA Airways flight from Dakar
ITA Airways, the Italian reference carrier experienced its first baby born on board a flight mid air from Dakar to Rome.
The airline said woman in her seventh month of pregnancy unexpectedly gave birth approximately one hour after takeoff on April 29, 2026 on its flight AZ855 from Dakar to Rome Fiumicino.
“The joyful and unexpected event brightened the day at ITA Airway,” the airline said.
A doctor and a nurse on board the flight assisted with the delivery.
The statement noted that the mother and newborn are doing well.
This is the first time ever that a child was born on board an ITA Airways aircraft.
ITA Airways is 59% owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Italy, and 41% by Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
