Families of two murdered fathers at Nanton appeal to police to expedite investigations
The families of murdered Yussif Mohammed (Fulani/Kpatuya Wulana), and Karim Tibung have called on the Ghana Police Service to expedite investigations into their murder case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Mr Sumani Alhassan, Spokesperson for the families, addressing a press conference on the incident at Nanton in the Northern Region, expressed concern over what he called the lack of progress in investigations saying no arrests had been made nearly two years after the incident.
Yussif Mohammed, and Karim Tibung were reportedly murdered on June 30, 2024, between the hours of 12am and 1am at Nyamamdu village near Nanton in the Northern Region under circumstances the families described as brutal and disturbing.
Mr Sumani Alhassan, Spokesperson for the families, addressing a press conference on the incident at Nanton, expressed concern over what he called the lack of progress in investigations saying no arrests had been made nearly two years after the incident.
Mr Alhassan said the two deceased were key members of their community and breadwinners of their families, whose deaths had left their dependants in distress.
He said Yussif Mohammed was survived by a wife and five children while Karim Tibung left behind three wives and 15 children, all of who were now facing uncertain future.
He said, “It is really unfortunate and with deep pain to we, the families, and the entire community that the incident occurred just hours before the burial of Yussif Mohammed’s late father.”
He added that “Despite the gravity of this crime, the perpetrators roam free in Nanton. No arrests have been made. This is unacceptable.”
Mr Alhassan called on the Inspector General of Police and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to arrest the suspects, conduct thorough investigations and ensure prosecution of those found culpable.
The families also appealed for support for the widows and children affected by the incident to help them cope with the socio-economic challenges resulting from the demise of their fathers.
Mr Alhassan urged members of the public to support their call for justice and said the families would continue to pursue the matter until justice was served.
Madam Rashida Ziblim, First Wife of the late Karim Tibung, appealed to the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to arrest the perpetrators and ensure justice for her husband.
She also pleaded with the authorities not to abandon the case saying the family continued to live in pain and uncertainty.
She appealed for support to help cater for the needs of the family, adding that the loss of her husband had placed a heavy burden on her and the children as they struggled to cope with their daily needs.
Two sons of the deceased, Abdul Karim Adam, 19, and Abdul Karim Mubarik, 20, who are both final-year students at Ghana Senior High School in Tamale, said the loss of their father had negatively affected their academic work.
Adam and Mubarik, who were in their first year when their father was killed, have indicated they are now preparing to sit for their final year examinations under emotional stress.
They said they continued to grieve while trying to focus on their studies and appealed for justice to be served to bring closure to the matter.
