University alerts families, students of growing activities of fraudsters
Authorities at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) have urged students and their families, to endeavour to channel through the institutions procedures in seeking hostel accommodation.
Mr James Clarke Hayford, the Registrar in-charge of the Dean of Students Office of UENR gave the advice and cautioned the students to be wary of the growing activities of fraudsters, who disguised themselves as ‘agents’ collecting monies in the pretext of seeking hostels for students.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sunyani, Mr Hayford, also the Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations Officer of the University, said the advice was timely due to the growing student population of the university.
He said it was also the responsibility of the institution to aid students who could not access hostels on campus, by linking them to genuine hostel operators outside the university community.
Mr Hayford noted that the unscrupulous activities of the fraudsters were rife online, using the new media to dupe unsuspecting students, and advised parents and the students to always engage the authorities for hostel accommodation.
He said besides academic work, the UENR remained committed to enhancing the welfare, safety and security of their students.
